Heiva rima’ī, more than 30 years of excellence
This year Heiva Rima’ī is celebrating its 31st edition with more passion than ever. A creative showcase of in arts and crafts in French Polynesia, this exhibition highlights the excellence of our craftsmen and women via a multitude of facets. More than one hundred craftsmen and women will gather this year around the theme of “Hei Maire No’ano’a” (Lei of fragrant Maire). Accordingly, this is an occasion for all of the traditional Polynesian skills to be displayed: wood carving, stone carving, bone carving, jewellery, tifaifai (patchwork), plating and braiding, basket-making, sewing, etc. Demonstrations of our different traditional arts and crafts will be offered to the public such as tifaifai, basket-making, dress making, or the making of shell jewellery.
This year again, several competitions are organized by the Tahiti i te rima rau committee to highlight the creativity and dexterity of local artisans. On the programme are planned, among other things, competitions to make dance outfits for children made of fibre or pandanus, the making of necklaces and bags made of shells, and the carving and sewing around the theme “Hei Maire noanoa”. The public will be able to enjoy many activities. Tastings will also be organised by the archipelago every Saturday (culinary arts, know-how, music, dance, parades…).
